homecoming

It’s been a long time since I’ve come by here.  But it’s been summer and summer is all kites and boats, air and water, and all of it flows and there’s no steady ground for thoughts or feet.  I’ve been flying here and there, enjoying the beautiful bounty of old countries, ogling buildings, eating treacly treats, traipsing aimlessly along skinny serpentine streets.  The weather has shifted, though, the air is changing.  I’ve come back, ready for returning, slowing down, sitting down.  Ready for roots (and boots).  My classes have been filled with new faces and I myself have returned as student here and there, happy to be reminded of muscles I’d neglected in the heat.  I’ve been feeling a bit lost, kind of cloud-bound and thoughtless.  I’ve missed home, my community, my hands busy in the kitchen.  With the cool comes my space, my quiet, time to think and write and notice things.  It’s been a boon to be footloose, fancy free, but I’ve never been happier to touch down.   More soon, xo.
